I know it could be so much worse than it is, but honestly you can only truly imagine what you know. Right now, I now my city is cold, and snowy and the traffic sucks and the blading causes ice, and the snow is like quicksand and people are grumpy.
But I am not writing to blog and bitch about my weather. It may seem like I am, but really this post is about the kindness of people.
This morning, our neighbor's friend stopped by to pick up neighbor. She got stuck in the pile of powder at the bottom of our neighbor's driveway. Unfortunately for friend, this is her first winter driving and her inexperience was not on her side. I helped shovel her out, and then tried to help push. Even with rocking, my little 5'2" frame could not get enough oomf to help her get out of the stew of snow. Another neighbor, who has never spoken a word to any of us, ran over with his shovel and got her out.
Grown ups are ensuring children are crossing the roads safely, people are holding doors open for each other, and walks are getting shoveled for older neighbors...
but wait.
There are still assholes. The ones who speed past you, when you are driving at a safe pace in the right lane, and cause you to swerve and rub the curb, or causing some to spin out. Keeping your head down when you see a woman with children stuck on the side of the road after school not being able to rock out of the drift she is stuck in. Laughing when you see someone fly sideways through a busy intersection, or honking at them like they can stop. OR slamming on your breaks on a busy freeway, whether merging or not, during rush hour in craptastic road conditions. Bravo douche bag. You're a shit head.
Don't be a shit head. Be kind this winter. It sucks for everyone, not just you!
